CUH WBB: Chaminade Falls in Conference Home Opener to HPU 88-55

Florita leads with 16 points in defeat

Box Score HONOLULU, HI – CUH lost to Hawaii Pacific this evening 88-55 in the PacWest Conference home opener for the Swords. 
 
Chaminade and HPU battled early on, as HPU led 16-9 halfway through the first half.  The SeaWarriors offense exploded for 32 points the remainder of the first half to lead 48-23 at the break.  Sophomore Glacen Florita (Ewa Beach, HI/Pearl City) was a bright spot, scoring eight first half points for CUH.
 
CUH shot 6-18 (33%) from the floor in the first half, while HPU shot 53% from the field. 
 
A quick 6-0 run by HPU to start the second half extended the lead to 31 points at 54-23 with 17:51 remaining.  The Swords continued to compete in the second half but it wasn't enough as the SeaWarriors won 88-55.
 
Senior Kelly Costello (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake) finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds connecting on two of four three point attempts.  Junior forward Rhani Kaneaiakala (Waimanalo, HI/Kamehameha) added 9 points in 22 minutes, while point guard Dianna Zane (Honolulu, HI /Roosevelt) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in defeat.
 
Chaminade shot 40% from the floor and Hawaii Pacific shot 52% for the night. 
 
HPU was led by Paris Gravely with 26 points.  The SeaWarriors won the rebounding battle outrebounding CUH 34-27.    
 
Chaminade is back in PacWest action on Jan. 11th against Academy of Art. Tip is set for 5:00 PM HT in McCabe Gym.
 
The Swords move to 0-8, 0-2 PWC on the year, while HPU goes to 8-5, 2-1 PWC.
