Box Score HONOLULU – The current Chaminade women's volleyball team is venturing into uncharted territory. The Silverswords swept Notre Dame de Namur in a Pacific West Conference match at McCabe Gym Saturday, 25-12, 25-22, 25-23, extending their winning streak to four, their first such feat since September 6-18, 2008.
Kim Spring put down 12 kills to lead CUH with seven digs.
Crystal Powell added 11 kills while hitting .421 on the night, her highest hitting percentage this season as the Swords improved to 9-12 on the year and 6-10 in the PacWest. The Argonauts fell to 5-20 and 2-14.
Reigna Johnson added eight kills with four blocks for Chaminade, while
Kylee Pedro accounted for six combined blocks, five assisted.
Brenda Walker, among the PacWest's leaders in digs, had 12.
Callan Finney led NDNU with 11 kills and 11 digs.
The Swords set the tone early, establishing a 16-6 lead in the first set behind three kills each from Spring and Powell. Chaminade would not let up, cruising to the 13-point Set 1 win. The Swords hit at a .333 clip in the set while holding the Argos to a minus-.167 percentage.
Set 2 was a much different story as both teams nearly matched each other point-for-point before NDNU grabbed a 15-13 lead. A 4-0 CUH run made it 17-15, forcing an Argos timeout. NDNU would tie the set up three times down the stretch including at 22-all. A Spring kills, an Argos' hitting error and a
Kapiolani Rapoza kill would represent the set's final three points, giving the Swords a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Chaminade jumped out to a seemingly-comfortable 17-9 lead, but Finney's five kills during a 10-2 NDNU run tied the set at 19. CUH would score the next three points on an attack error and kills by Johnson and Rapoza. The Argos would reduce the deficit to one three times down the stretch, including at match point, but Powell ended all doubt by hammering down the match-winner.
CUH hit .236 on the evening, its third-highest percentage of the season while holding NDNU to a .055 attack percentage. The Swords also out-blocked the Argonauts, 11-4.
"It's been a complete team effort," Montoya said. "It took us coming together as one in order to put this winning streak together."
"I'm very excited," Powell said. "Our team just has great chemistry this year and we're working hard all together and it's been pushing us through. We all want it as a team…"
Chaminade makes its final Mainland road trip of the year next week when they visit 25
th-ranked Point Loma on Friday.
