Box Score HONOLULU – If the Chaminade University women's basketball team could put together a solid first half, they could make things interesting against opponents in the 2013-14 season.
Despite a well-played second half, a slow first half start by the Silverswords put them in a hole they couldn't dig from, resulting in a 93-57 loss to Alaska-Anchorage Thursday at McCabe Gym.
After being outscored 53-22 in the first stanza, the Swords (0-2) went nearly point-for-point with their northern counterparts, being outscored only 40-35 in the second. A slow first half on Sunday against Alaska on Sunday, despite outscoring the Nanooks in the second half, also contributed to their season-opening loss.
Hanna Curtius scored a team-high 12 points for CUH, but the Seawolves (4-0) countered with Kiki Robertson. The Honolulu native from Mid-Pacific Institute returned home with a game-high 23 points with 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Robertson was one of four double-digit scorers on the night for Alaska-Anchorage.
The Swords' 57 points was actually the most ever scored against the Seawolves in nine meetings. Also the 36-point margin of defeat was the best ever against UAA, whose margin of victory against Chaminade coming into the night was 55.6 points per game.
