’Lady Swords Drop 82-52 Decision at Art U

Henry had 10 points, four boards and three assists Thursday vs. Academy of Art.
Box Score SAN FRANCISCO – In the first meeting between the Chaminade University and Academy of Art women's basketball teams on Jan. 8 in Honolulu, the Urban Knights put up 120 and won by 51. Thursday afternoon's rematch was a much better performance by the Silverswords, but the result was still the same in the Urban Knight's 82-52 win.

Chaminade's Lilia Maio, the reigning Hawai'i Tourism Authority Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week, continued her standout rookie season, posting her third double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Fellow freshman Kristle Henry overcame a slow shooting start in the first half to post 10 points, four rebounds and three assists before fouling out.

Art U was led by Krystal Fortham with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Jasmin Guinn also posted a double-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

The 'Swords fell to 2-14 overall and 2-8 in the PacWest. The first place Knights improved to 12-6 and 9-1.

The 'Swords led for much of the early stages of the contest. A 7-0 run on a pair of Akana free throws, an Angela Rigo layup and a Hanna Curtius 3-pointer gave them a 15-10 lead with 12:20 left in half. But the Urban Knights rallied back to take a 27-19 lead with 6:29 remaining. A 9-0 run by the 'Swords, capped by Akana's layup with 3:55 left, put Chaminade ahead, 28-27. However, Art U outscored CUH, 12-2, to end the half with a 39-30 lead.

Maio had eight points at the break for the Silverswords while Fortham had already posted her double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds).

A  21-5 run by the Urban Knights to open the second half put away any notions by the Silverswords of pulling off an upset.

Chaminade shot 31 percent in the game, but also held Academy of Art to only 34 percent from the floor. However, the Urban Knights dominated on the boards, 67-43.

The Silverswords wrap up the road trip on Saturday against Dominican University of California.
