Lady ’Swords No Match for Lancers, 100-41

Angle's 11 points led the 'Swords Thursday at California Baptist.
Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – One thing is certain – the Chaminade University women's basketball team does not like playing at Van Dyne Gym. In Feb. 2012, they were on the short end of a 61-point defeat to California Baptist. Two years later, it wasn't any better in a 100-41 loss to the Lancers in a Pacific West Conference game on Thursday.

Sabrina Angle had a team-high 11 points for Chaminade (3-18 overall, 3-12 PacWest). Glacen Florita had eight while Kennedi Akana contributed with six points and nine rebounds. Leading scorer, Lilia Maio, who came into the contest averaging 12.3 points per game for the Silverswords, was held to four, tied for her lowest output this season.

CBU's Jasmine Sauser led six Lancers (12-10, 10-6) in double-digit scoring with 20 points. Olivia Weber hauled in a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

For the second straight game, the undermanned 'Swords were held to their lowest scoring game of the season. And in two lifetime games at Van Dyne Gym, they've been outscored 205-85.

The Lancers scored the game's first eight points, forcing the 'Swords to call a timeout. Kelcie Namba ended the drought when she knocked down a 3-pointer with 16:29 left in the half. Florita added a jumper to cut the deficit in half at 10-5.

CBU eventually built the lead to double-digits and led, 26-16, after Angle's 3-ball with 10 minutes left until halftime. But a 19-2 Lancers' run over the next six minutes helped give them a 52-24 halftime advantage.

Things didn't get any easier for the 'Swords when they emerged from the locker room. After an Angle field goal 30 seconds into the second half made it 52-26, Chaminade didn't score again for another eight minutes, as CBU put up 22 straight during that stretch. The Silverswords were outscored, 48-17, in the second half.

Chaminade shot just 24 percent (17-of-71) from the floor and pulled down 33 rebounds. California Baptist shot nearly 54 percent (41-of-76) from the field with 58 boards. The Lancers also dished out 25 assists. Also, the Silverswords failed to get to the free throw line for the first time in school history.

The 'Swords conclude the road trip on Saturday at Dixie State.
