WAIPIO, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team had their 2014 home opener Friday, falling to nationally-ranked Hawai'i Pacific, 9-0, at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
The Silverswords dropped to 0-6 on the season. The Sea Warriors, who are ranked fourth nationally and second in the West Region, improved to 6-0.
Melanie Schumilas held her own against HPU's Karen Ramirez, before dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision in No. 2 singles. And in No. 4 singles,
Roni Hewett managed to take three games from the Sea Warriors' Lorena Gheorghe, falling 6-2, 6-1.
The 'Swords return to action on Friday, March 7 when they host Hawai'i-Hilo at Corp Field at Central O'ahu Regional Park, starting at 2 p.m.
