’Swords Tennis Drops Finale to No. 3 BYUH

Isel Barba was one of two 'Swords playing in their final matches on Monday.
WAIPIO, Hawai'i – The 2014 season came to an end for the Chaminade University women's tennis team on Monday, falling to BYU-Hawai'i, 9-0, at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.
 
The Seasiders (22-0), the top ranked team in the region and No. 3 nationally by the ITA, won all three doubles matches to open the day. The Silverswords' No. 1 duo of Kimberly Takara and Jan Matsumoto managed to score two points of BYUH's Alexandra Ulbrichtova and Jin Jin Han before falling, 8-2.
 
In singles, Takara, playing in the No. 1 spot for the second time this season, hung around Ulbrichtova in the opening set, before falling 6-3, 6-0.
 
Matsumoto, playing in her final match as a 'Sword, fell to Jin Jin Han in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Matsumoto, the Honolulu native who prepped at Maryknoll School, finished the season with five wins, all in doubles competition with Takara, her doubles partner the entire season.
 
Also concluding her collegiate career for the Silverswords was Waipahu High School graduate Isel Barba, who managed to take a game off Jeong-Min Jeon in No. 4 singles.
 
Chaminade finished the season at 0-11.
