Box Score HONOLULU – The winning ways of the Chaminade University women's volleyball team continued against Daemen College in the East-West Challenge Saturday afternoon at McCabe Gym.
Freshman outsider hitter
Kira Long led a balanced Silverswords attack as Chaminade improved to 3-0 on the year with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-9, 25-21 over the Wildcats.
Long led Chaminade with 11 kills while hitting .409 on the day. Outside hitters
Suncica Bakic and
Cassie Rushlow had nine kills each with
Reigna Johnson and Ku'ulei Lynch tallying eight and seven, respectively. Lynch was also a force at the net with four total blocks, including two solo. Meanwhile, Johnson had three total blocks.
Junior setter
Valentina Bevilacqua had 21 assists while sophomore
Kawai Oleole had 10.
Daemen (0-5) was led by Amber Dyzymala's match-high 16 kills.
The Silverswords accumulated a season-high eight blocks on the day and outhit the Wildcats, .260-.094.
Chaminade led the first set by as many as eight points before the Wildcats made a late charge, but
Kaya Chong's kill gave the set to the 'Swords.
After Daemen took the second set – its first set won this season – Chaminade roared back in the third as
Waihilo Chartrand ran off seven straight points at the service line to help give the 'Swords a convincing Set 3 win.
In the fourth set, Chaminade appeared to be cruising through, coming to within two points of the match win at 23-16. But the Wildcats ran off five straight to close to 23-21. After a Silverswords timeout, a Bakic kill followed by a Johnson attack closed the match.
Chaminade concludes the East-West Challenge this evening at 7 p.m. when it faces Pacific West Conference foe, Hawai'i-Hilo, in a non-conference tilt at McCabe Gym. Live streaming audio will be available at GoSwords.com.
