Castro Named Preseason PacWest

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University senior guard Destiny Castro on Tuesday was named to the All-Preseason Pacific West Conference Team as selected by the conference coaches.9560
 
The native of Talofofo, Guam, is coming off a spectacular junior campaign in which she earned first team all-conference and all-West Region honors after setting the program's single-season scoring record of 501 points and a 20.0 per game average. With 1,135 career points, she is just six away from Samantha Saito for No. 2 on the team's all-time scoring list and 132 to pass Lilia Maio's scoring record of 1,266.
 
Castro joins two Azusa Pacific players (twins Daylee and Savanna Hanson), two players of Hawai'i Pacific (Amy Baum and Alysha Marcucci) and Concordia's Michaela Vanderklugt on the preseason team.
 
Also released Tuesday was the preseason coaches poll. The Silverswords were picked ninth by the coaches while Azusa Pacific received all but one first-place vote as the preseason favorite, HPU, picked second, received one first-place vote.
 
The Silverswords open the season on Saturday, Nov. 9, against the University of Alaska Anchorage in Anchorage, Alaska. Their first home game is the PacWest opener on Wednesday, Dec. 4 against preseason No. 1 Azusa Pacific.
