IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University guard
Destiny Castro on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for games played between Dec. 9 through 15.
The senior helped guide the Silverswords to their first win of the season on Sunday, a 75-68 triumph at Academy of Art. Castro poured in 34 points, the fourth-highest single-scoring game in program history while amassing a school-record 10 steals which is tied for second-highest in an NCAA Division II game this season. She set another program record with her fifth career game with 30 or more points, breaking the tie she previously held with Brittnee Fonnesbeck. She also had three rebounds, three assists and a block.
It is also Castro's 14th career double-double which ranks second in program history. Her performance also gives her 1,248 career points, putting her on the doorstep of Lilia Maio's career scoring record of 1,266.
It is her first conference weekly honor this season, her fourth career player of the week award and 10th overall weekly award dating back to her freshman season.
Hawai'i Pacific's Starr Rivera earned Defender of the Week honors while Felicia Dourva of Fresno Pacific was the Freshman of the Week.
The Silverswords are in Oakland, Calif., on Tuesday where they continue their Bay Area road trip at Holy Names.
