Castro Named Second Team All-West Region

HONOLULU – Chaminade University guard Destiny Castro (Talofofo, Guam/Notre Dame HS) on Thursday was named to the D2CCA NCAA Division II Women's Basketball All-West Region Second Team, as voted by sports information directors from across the 36 Division II West Region schools.

The 5-6 junior is the first Silverswords women's basketball player to earn all-region honors since the sport became an intercollegiate program in 2006-07.

An All-Pacific West Conference First Team selection this past season, Castro finished the year averaging 20.0 points per game, third-highest in the West Region. Her 3.3 steals average led the PacWest and was tied for second-best in the West as she helped guide the 'Swords to seven wins which tied the program record.

Castro is on pace to become the program's all-time leading scorer. With 1,135 career points, she needs just seven to pass Samantha Saito for second on the list and 132 to pass current scoring leader Lilia Maio.

The PacWest had five represented with Dominican's Natalie Diaz and Azusa Pacific's Savanna Hanson on the first team. All three of Hawai'i's Division II schools were represented on the second team with Allie Navarette of Hawai'i Hilo and Breanna Mackenzie of Hawai'i Pacific joining Castro on the list.
