Destiny Castro (Talofofo, Guam/Notre Dame HS) on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Defender of the Week for the week of Feb. 10 to 16.
The 5-foot-6 senior recorded 12 steals, 14 defensive rebounds and five blocked shots during the week. She also had 59 points and eight assists.
Castro had a seven-steal contest at Biola then in Saturday's matchup at Concordia Irvine, she tallied three steals, giving her 83 on the year, breaking the program record of 82 she set last season. She also has a steal in 23 of the 24 games she has played in, has 21 multi-steal contests and is 23 away from the PacWest career record of 115 with three games left in her career.
Castro also recorded consecutive two-block games at Point Loma and Biola last week. She has a block in each of her last four games and six of her last seven.
It is her third PacWest weekly honor this season and her second as the defender of the week.
Hawai'i Hilo's Allie Navarette earned PacWest Player of the Week while Fresno Pacific's Felicia Dourva was the Freshman of the Week.
