Castro Named All-PacWest Second Team

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University women's basketball senior Destiny Castro (Talofofo, Guam/Notre Dame HS) on Wednesday was named to the 2019-20 All-Pacific West Conference Second Team in a voting conducted by the conference coaches.

The 5-foot-6 guard completed a stellar career for the Silverswords, finishing third in the PacWest in scoring at 19.0 points per game while leading in steals at 3.4 which also ranked in the top 10 nationally. She walks away with 20 career, single-season and single-game records.

Castro is the team's career holder in scoring (1,648), scoring average (17.0), steals (293) and steals average (3.0) and, this year, broke her own single-season record with 513 points. She also holds the single-game scoring record (40 at Holy Names set last year) and back on Dec. 15, set another with 10 steals at Academy of Art. She is also No. 5 on the PacWest's all-time scoring list and is tied for second in steals.

Castro is the first Chaminade women's basketball player to earn All-PacWest honors four times. She was a first team selection last year, was on the second team as a sophomore and the honorable mention team in her freshman year in which she was also the PacWest Freshman of the Year.

Hawai'i Pacific had three individual awards with Amy Baum as the PacWest Player of the Year, Ally Bates as the Newcomer of the Year and Reid Takastuka as Coach of the Year. Laura Pranger of Azusa Pacific was Defender of the Year with Freshman of the Year going to Biola's Stephanie Lee.
