LAIE, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team battled Linfield College at BYU-Hawai'i Tennis Courts on Friday, falling to the Wildcats, 8-1. The match was a make-up of Tuesday's rain-out.
Junior
Kimberly Takara won the Silverswords' lone match, a 7-6, 6-0 decision against Basia Kopecka in No. 2 singles.
The 'Swords also put up a valiant effort in their top two doubles matches as the No. 1 team of Takara and
Michelle Bucher fell to Linfield's Ella Riddle and Mackenzie Fraser, 8-5. Meanwhile,
Roni Hewett and
Melanie Schumilas hung tough against Kopecka and Courtney Hammagren before dropping an 8-4 decision in No. 2 doubles.
"Thanks to BYU-Hawai'i and Coach Dave Porter for allowing us to use their courts," Chaminade head coach
Ty Aki said.
"We have lots of potential on our team," he continued. "Our top four are really working hard to get better in improving their strategy plays. I'm really proud of them.
"Our other two are still working hard. But give them time and they'll improve."
The 'Swords are on the road next week at the Holua Invitational in Kona, Hawai'i, playing three matches in as many days. They'll face Hawai'i-Hilo on Thursday, Sonoma State on Friday and No. 4 BYU-Hawai'i on Saturday.
