WAIPIO, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team faced Hawai'i-Hilo Wednesday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park, but fell 7-2 in perhaps their most competitive match of the season.
Kimberly Takara won both her singles and doubles matches to account for both Silversword victories. The junior paired with
Michelle Bucher in No. 2 doubles to down Bianca Novotna and Chanelle Piliwale-Wilson 8-2. Takara came back in No. 2 singles and defeated Novotna, who retired down 5-0.
Melanie Schumilas and
Roni Hewett battled UH-Hilo's Trixie Croad and Rachel Sugiyama in No. 1 doubles before falling 8-3, as did
Jackie McGreal and
Cassidy Acord in No. 3 doubles.
Bucher battled Sugiyama in No. 3 singles before falling 6-4, 7-5. Hewett and Acord also managed to win games in their respective singles matches.
The Silverswords fell to 0-9 while the Vulcans improved to 2-6.
The Silverswords return to action on Thursday, March 19 when they host Academy of Art at CORP Field.
