WAIPIO, O'ahu, Hawai'i – A two-year drought has come to an end for the Chaminade University women's tennis team. 
The Silverswords defeated College of Idaho Tuesday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park, 5-4, snapping a 24-match losing streak dating back to March 2013. It is also the first win for first-year head coach 
Ty Aki. 
The 'Swords opened the day winning 2-of-3 doubles matches with their No. 1 team of 
Melanie Schumilas and 
Roni Hewett downing the Yotes' Shae Stults and Allie Boyd, 8-5, while 
Kimberly Takara and 
Michelle Bucher defeated Megan Huffman and Erin Huffman, 8-0, in No. 2 doubles. 
The teams then split their six singles matches with Chaminade's top three of Schumilas, Takara and Bucher each winning their respective matches. Schumilas battled Boyd and won the second set via tiebreaker while Takara easily handled Stults 6-1, 6-0. Bucher won her first singles match of the year 6-2, 6-2 over Megan Huffman in No. 3 singles 
"I'm happy for them," Aki said. "They have been working hard with the number of nationally-ranked team like BYU-Hawai'i, HPU, Academy of Art and so on. 
"Earning this win against College of Idaho is a step in the right direction. I owe it to them for all their effort and hard work." 
Chaminade (1-10) and College of Idaho (1-5) face each other again on Thursday at CORP Field starting at 10 a.m.
