ATLANTA – The Chaminade University women's basketball team ranks 20th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Division II Honor Roll announced Tuesday.
The Silverswords, who made the honor roll for the first time in team history, compiled a team grade-point average of 3.663. They are one of two Pacific West Conference teams (along with Point Loma) and three West Region schools to make the academic top 25. Seton Hill (Pennsylvania) tops all Division II programs with a 3.831 team GPA.
Eight 'Swords who were on the roster during the 2019-20 academic term had GPAs over 3.500 with seniors
Destiny Castro (Talofofo, Guam/Notre Dame HS) and
Kirstin Wong (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) posting perfect 4.000 GPAs.
To be eligible for the WBCA Academic Top 25, grades of all members who were on the team during the '19-20 year are counted with the nomination made by their WBCA-member head coach. Teams must have a minimum 3.000 team GPA to be nominated.
The women's basketball team is the fifth Chaminade intercollegiate program to attain national academic honors with their respective sports organization this year.
