BRO. BERNARD J. PLOEGER, S.M., Ph.D. was born in 1948 and spent his childhood in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from Moeller High School, he joined the Marianists and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Dayton in 1971. He would later earn his master’s degree and doctorate in Mathematics from Ohio State University in 1975. From 1986 to 2000, Bro. Bernie served many roles ranging from the Senior Vice President for Administration at the University of Dayton to External Advisor to the President at Chaminade University. In 2001, Ploeger joined Chaminade University as the Executive Vice President and Provost, where he directly supervised all aspects of academic programs, student affairs, enrollment management and finance. After the passing of President Mary C. (Sue) Wesselkamper, Bro. Bernie was selected as the ninth President of Chaminade University in March 2009. He is considered the chief architect of the University’s strategic plans since 2008, and played an instrumental role in renewing Chaminade’s participation and commitment in intercollegiate athletics. His vision to enhance the overall campus with new and upgraded facilities and the establishment of the Chaminade University School of Nursing in 2010 are all part of his many accomplishments. With 23 years of total service and dedication to the students, faculty, staff and the entire Chaminade ‘ohana, Bro. Bernie has built a proud legacy that will continue to flourish in years to come.   Â
