The late MARTHA B. SMITH earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy from the University of Central Florida and Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, before graduating from Chaminade University in 1991 with a Master’s in Business Administration.  In October 2004, Smith joined Hawai`i Pacific Health and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Kapi`olani Medical Center for Women & Children.  With over 25 years of experience in hospital operations and health care, Smith was seen by many as one of the most respected minds in the field.  In 2014, she was named Healthcare Leader of the year by the Healthcare Association of Hawai’i in and recognized as Hawai`i’s Business Leader of the Year in 2016.  Along with her many accomplishments, the Florida native found time to give back on numerous community boards, including serving on the Chaminade University Board of Regents, where she made her impact as an annual Athletics Booster Club member and Table Sponsor for the Intercollegiate Athletics Gala.  In 2018, Smith played an instrumental role in Hawai`i Pacific Health becoming the “Official Healthcare Partner of Chaminade University Athletics,” which provides the University’s 140 student-athletes with the best possible care both on and off the field of play.


Smith passed away in March 2021.
