Hall of Fame
KUANY KUANY (2013-17) put together one of the greatest careers as a Chaminade men's basketball player before making history as an Olympian and captain for the South Sudan national team for the 2024 Paris Games.
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Kuany ranks fourth among the program's career scoring leaders with 1,600 points and second in rebounds with 876. His career rebounding average of 7.9 per game is tied for fourth all-time while his 106 career starts is the most by a Silversword since the category was being tracked in 1996.
One of the most decorated players in program history, Kuany is the only four-time All-Pacific West Conference honoree and owns the 'Swords' single-game record for rebounds when he pulled in 22 against Azusa Pacific during his freshman season on Feb. 3, 2014. He helped guide the Silverswords to the 2014 PacWest Tournament championship and two berths into the NCAA West Regionals.
Following his graduation, Kuany played professionally throughout Australia and Europe before earning a spot on the national team from Sudan, his birth country, before his family fleed to Australia as war refugees when he was a child. Serving as team captain, the South Sudanese achieved several firsts including being the country's first team to play in the AfroBasketball tournament, FIBA World Cup then the 2024 Olympics. Just weeks before the start of the Games, in a friendly against the heavily favored Americans in London, South Sudan came within seconds of pulling off a massive upset against a squad that featured future Hall of Famers LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, among others.
During the Games opening ceremonies, Kuany had the honor of being the flag bearer during the parade that introduces each country.
