The late WILL POUNDS (1957-2006) remains one of the most dynamic and influential players in the history of Chaminade men's basketball program. At 6-foot-7 and 250 lbs., he averaged 23.4 points during the 1978-79 season, leading the Silverswords to a 24-5 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals. His stellar style of play gave him recognition and was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in the 1979 NBA Draft.
After his playing career, Pounds, also known as "Mr. Chaminade," would return to the school as an assistant coach under the legendary Merv Lopes.
Pounds is the second-leading scorer in school history with 1,710 points and is third in career rebounds with 855. He is the only player in school history to average a career double-double (22.2 points, 11.1 rebounds per game).
Pounds passed away in March 2006.
