GEORGE GILMORE, JR. ’04 is a proud native of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  As a gifted athlete, Gilmore found his passion in the game of basketball.  After earning All-American honors at Santa Fe Community College in Florida, Gilmore decided to follow his junior college coach Daryl Lauderdale to Chaminade University after turning down a scholarship offer from the University of Florida.  As one of the most prolific scorers to ever don the Silversword uniform (1990-92), Gilmore posted remarkable numbers that still stand in the Chaminade record books.  From Division II All-American and Basketball Times’ Player of the Year to Chaminade’s all-time scoring average leader (30 points per game), Gilmore showcased his talent in the Maui Invitational Tournament against opponents like Toledo, Iowa State and #1 Arkansas.  In two years, he scored 177 points in six games and became one of only two Silversword players to ever win the tournament’s Most Valuable Player Award.  Gilmore would also meet his wife of 19 years Millicent Perreira at Chaminade University.  After a successful professional playing career in Europe, Gilmore returned to Chaminade to complete his degree in 2004.  He now resides in Kailua with his children, Kaleb, Jaron and Moriah and holds a full-time position at the Kapolei Detention Home, where he mentors at-risk youth to help turn their lives around.
