The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation is built on the humble roots and values of the late Clarence T.C. Ching (1912-85), who was born in a small village on Kauai.  After graduating from Saint Louis School in 1932, Ching steadily grew his business reputation in land development, real estate, insurance, banking and construction.

In 1967, Ching successfully bid on a contract to build an affordable housing complex on a 19.5-acre tract; Kukui Gardens was thus realized as a way to give back to the community and the foundation was formed. With its strong mission to assist the needy by providing scholarships and grants to charitable and educational institutions, the Foundation has made a tremendous impact on the state with commitments totaling over $70 million in grants.

Ching designated Chaminade as one of the three beneficiaries of his trust. He worked tirelessly to support the University, since its inception 60 years ago.  He served on the Board of Regents and was awarded an Honorary Degree in 1969 from Chaminade, in recognition of his role as one of the University’s key founders.  The Foundation has steadfastly partnered with Chaminade over the years, providing critical support in the form of scholarships, capital funding and general operation support.  In 2008, the Foundation provided one of the largest grants in Chaminade University’s history to renovate and name the Clarence T.C. Ching Hall.
